While designed primarily to move massive wind turbine blades, the WindRunner aircraft under development by Radia could serve military applications, with the Pentagon and US Congress taking an interest in the aircraft’s utility for the DoD.

Windrunner is the largest aircraft in the world, with a cargo volume 12 times that of a Boeing 747. It was designed to transport wind turbines, but has potential in defense, strategic transport, and space. It was built by Radia. Suppliers include Leonardo, Aernnova, and the Magnaghi Group. Giuseppe Giordo, president and CEO of Radia Italia, talks to us about it.
